Man, a lot to talk about this week.

Also…had a lot of time on my hands this week, what with the 2-3 feet of snow since the last post.

Quick snow summary:

Snowed Friday night/Saturday, school closed Mon-Wed. Went for 5 hours on Thursday. Closed again today. More snow and ice today. Haven’t seen the floor of my back deck since November. Has been covered in snow since then.

So instead of the Work Week we will have….

Snow Week:

Well,ย Saturday *last week, 1st snow*ย was sledding and snowboarding with the neighbors. Or rather attempted sledding/snowboarding. It was the dry, light, powdery snow that wasn’t even good for snowball making. Tragic. So…the 3 of us trooped around town…did a little B&E….

There’s a very creepy looking house nearby…that’s empty and…scary looking. So…we decided to look in the windows…and I apparently have the least fear in the group, because I managed to get a door open. ๐Ÿ™‚ So we snooped around. Nothing really interesting, but we did trade ghost stories and managed to scare ourselves slightly.

After playing in the snow...my pants were frozen solid.

After playing in the snow...my pants were frozen solid.

Sunday…I think there was a lot of sleeping. I’m not sure. Monday I finally managed to get OUT of my driveway. Let me tell you it was SKETCHY. I got to go to lunch with the bestest, then talked her in to coming over that night! It sleeted/snowed Tuesday night so yet again, no school. Tuesday’s activities involved the Y, so more on that later.

Digging the car out.

Digging the car out.

Wednesday was another snow day, so I went up to visit the bestest for lunch yet again, and FINALLY was able to get in and out of my driveway without sliding in to a ditch!!! SUCCESS!

Thursday we had a 2 hour delay…and did some other activities of questionable legallity with the neighbor…and then Friday…..snow. Lots.

The car was re-burried. Not cool.

The car was re-burried. Not cool.

So far today I’ve cleared the snow off the heat pump because the news told me that was a good plan. During that adventure in to the outdoors, I learned a few things. 1) Knee high boots do not help in snow that is over your knees. 2) Dustpan = snow shovel in a pinch.

Actually I learned #2 back in December when we had the first 18 inch snow.

Also, made a pretty rockin snowman. Good times.

Snowman!!! I shall name him Bob.

Snowman!!! I shall name him Bob.

The news said Vancover has gotten around 2 inches of snow this winter so far….we’ve had 26. What now, winter Olympics!?!?!

Anyway.

Knitting Week:

Lots happening there. Did a little spinning, talked to some lovely ladies over on Rav and got some thoughts on my spinning. STILL haven’t dropped the drop spindle yet…but might get brave.

Finshed baby berry hat #2 and started #3. It should be done later today.

What what? Both baby hats done!!!

What what? Both baby hats done!!!

Also got a good portion of the Hokie scarf done for Aunt’s charity auction. Kind of gave up on the scarf that is a present for her…It’s angered me to the point of non-knittage.

Almost done!!!

Almost done!!!

Might do some sock work today too for lack of better options.

Also, the cat stole a knitting needle at one point this week and entertained himself greatly.

Workout Week:

Well I was doing pretty awesome up until yesterday! Every day I did some kind of workout, EVEN with the snow!!! I got The Firm’s Power Yoga on DVD from Netflix…and that thing is AWESOME. I did that at least 4 times this week.

Also did some kickboxing and lower body work.

On Monday I went to the YMCA with Carly. I now officially heart the Y. Carly got on the treadmill, and I got on an elliptical and every 10 minutes we traded for 40 minutes. It was a REALLY good workout.

The Y also has 2 NICE indoor pools…so I could train for my tri. Carly is probably doing one too!!!!!! WHOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the Y offers some great classes that all start around 5pm so I could actually get there AFTER school.

So if they accept my financial aid request application thingy….then I’m going to join. I…just can’t pay full price. With my student loans, medical bills, and credit card debt…*shudder* No.

But anyway, love the Y. Really hope I can afford to join. Mmmm pool.

Favorite:

Hmm, this week’s favorite would have to be Kim’s Quick Chili. It’s REALLY quick and easy and the local Minute Market carries all the necessary ingredients!!! Granted, it’s not my dad’s amazing chili, but this only takes about 30 minutes to cook. ๐Ÿ™‚ Sometimes quick is best.

So I shall now share the recipe. It’s kind of Kim’s…and kind of mine. Kim found the recipe in a magazine…and if I remember correctly this magazine was in a Dr’s office and she ripped the page out because it looked so good. ๐Ÿ™‚ But anyway, we’ve since lost both the magazine and actual recipe so we’re mostly going on memory…and guesstimation and taste. ๐Ÿ™‚

Kim’s Superfab Speedy Chili:

1 lb Ground Beef *or ground turkey!*
1 16oz Jar Salsa
1 Can Tomato Juice
1 Onion Diced
1 Green Pepper Diced
1-2 Cloves Garlic Minced
2 Tbs Chili Powder
1 tsp Cumin
1 Tbs Olive Oil
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder

In a large pot, brown beef in olive oil. Once it is browned, add onion, pepper, and garlic and sautee until onions are golden/clear. Add all other ingredients. Bring to a boil and stir every 2-3 mintues. Add any other spices and salt or pepper to taste.

Enjoy!

Other Junk:

Not a lot to report. Most of it was covered in the Snow Week. ๐Ÿ™‚ I did help my neighbor put together some rockin good surprises for her boyfriend’s birthday. One of the surprises….well…it involved a lot of heavy lifting, and putting things in the trunk/back seat of my car that I never thought would fit there. If you really want to hear the story, email me. I’m going to try and not publically incriminate myself.

But man I was proud of our accomplishment. I can’t wait to see how he likes his present.

I also helped her make a cake to surprise him with so that was fun.

Mmmm cake...

Mmmm cake...

Now…I just have to get some schoolย work done, then I’m going to knit through the superbowl.

GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then…I am going to pray for a 2 hour delay tomorrow. ๐Ÿ™‚ I can’t help it. As much as I hate giving up my spring break for snow days…I love unplanned time off.

Also I don’t think I have a ย prayer of getting out of my driveway until Tuesday at the earliest. It’s kinda nasty still.

So we’ll see what happens! It would be nice if the snow would go away so I can go running.

But oh, wait. It’s supposed to snow AGAIN next weekend.

Anyway.

Scrappy Shoutout:

This week’s shoutout goes to Teri. First off, THANKS for all the email love and hugs and checking in on me!!! That made my day. You are awesome. Also…the vet thing…UBER awesome. So thanks for keeping me entertained this week, and making me smile. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a good one, guys!!

Ok, so it wasn’t too frightful…but it was snowy and cold!!!! And it’s been more than a week since I’ve written, I know…but…that’s life. ๐Ÿ™‚

And I was inside. Sick. More on that later. Let’s get down to it, shall we?

The Work Week:

Mmm, not a whole lot to report. I DID get my H1N1 vaccine though!!! I was so excited!!!! No flu for MEEEEEE!! Now I just have to get the regular flu shot and I’ll be set.

Thanksgiving was a blur, not enough time off!! Then last week…nothing to report really. It was work. So we’ll move on.

The Workout Week:

Well…I kind of sort of not really re-started P90X. ๐Ÿ™‚

Kinda.

I managed to remember to bring it down with me after Thanksgiving. I did 2 days of it, then got a head cold of sorts. I’m thinking I’m going to do bits and pieces of it. It’s a very intense program, and I need to build back up to that level.

I also need to get back to training for a real race!!!! AND I want to do a few tri’s in the spring…and HOPEFULLY I’ve talked a few people in to doing them with me! *looks at her people* YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!!

Also this week…I changed my first bike tire!!!

*bows*

Yes, yes, SO PROUD!!!

Well, I changed the tube. I’d never changed a tire on ANYTHING so this was an accomplishment for me!

First, I had to get the wheel OFF the bike…that wasn’t too bad.

Changing the bike tire.

Changing the bike tire.

Then…taking out the old tube and replacing it with the new one.

Ok...I can do this...

Ok...I can do this...

All in all, it wasn’t that bad. In fact, it was a heck of a lot easier than replacing strings on a string instrument….we’ll get to that in a bit. That involved puncture wounds. Not ok. *shakes head*

Tomorrow I’m hoping to get some yoga in, and later this week a run or two before the Jingle Bell 5K on Saturday.

Then on the 19th there’s ANOTHER 5K so I’ll get my 9 races in 09!!!! WHOOO!!!! Speaking of which, I need to update the Race Rollcall page.

Moving on…

The Knitting Week:

Not a lot happened over break. I looked at my projects. I glared at my projects. But I didn’t really do much on them.

I did re-start the gray scarf for Aunt Cynthia….I got mad at it.

Evil Scarf....

Evil Scarf....

The old one is on the straight needle. I can’t do straight needles anymore, especially when purling!!! I wanted to rip my fingers off every time. So…I’m switching to Addi’s and doing a straight knit. It’ll go faster, because let’s face it, Christmas is COMING!!!

Then Aunt Sarah’s hat is coming along nicely. I don’t think I’m doing the decreases exactly right…because my number ended up a little off….but…I’m just going with it. It’ll be a beret, and she’ll like it no matter what.

It's almost done!!

It's almost done!!

Other than that…I worked a little on Aunt Connie’s socks…toe up for the first time. On DPN’s. Not so sure how that’s gonna go…

Now it’s time for this week’s….

Favorite:

I’m going to have to go with a good, wet, sticking SNOW. Just like the one we got this week!

Mmmm snow!

Mmmm snow!

Big, fat, HUGE flakes. The kind that’s PERFECT for making snow men. The kind that’s great for sledding…the kind that gets you out of school. Mmm, snow.

I didn’t get to go sledding, or make snow men, but I did spend the day watching it snow from the coffee shop window with the BFF. We had a good time even though we didn’t play outside much!

Other Junk:

Well, over Thanksgiving I did get to see my best friend and new new baby boy. I took them out for her birthday lunch so that was nice.

During the week I did manage to get some work done in my house. I hung up some pictures finally!

Yay for decorating!

Yeah, they are cheap frames from Walmart...but hey, for thirteen bucks...I'll take it!

Then I spent some time this weekend with Carly and Calypso…

Mom, I don't trust you...

Mom, I don't trust you...

And, upon coming home to see Tracy Friday night…I found this.

What's in that case???

What's in that case???

FIDDLE!!!!!!!!

FIDDLE!!!!!!!!

Yeah. I nearly screamed. He traded his guitar in to buy me a fiddle. I am still in shock.

So the fiddle caused me to also want my dulcimer. So that meant a trip to the music store to get strings since one was broken…and of course since we were at the music store, I had to buy a fiddle book!!! And some picks. And a mute for the fiddle (Which I cannot for the LIFE of me figure out how to put on…any suggestions?!?!) and other randomness.

Remember how I said changing a bike tire is easier than changing strings?

Yeah.

So I brought the dulcimer and fiddle home….much to the cat’s dismay…

Tomorrow, there WILL be a hairball on this, you do understand that, yes?

Tomorrow, there WILL be a hairball on this, you do understand that, yes?

And I replaced the one broken string on the dulcimer.

And while tuning it…I broke another.

Good thing I bought a pack of strings at the store!!!

Now all the strings are replaced, and I’m working on remembering how to play. ๐Ÿ™‚ So far I can play a mean “Hot Cross Buns” and a pathetic first line of “O Little Town of Bethlehem”…

I haven’t done much on the fiddle yet. I can make it make a noise that doesn’t send animals and small children in to tears. That, I think, is progress.

That and my request for lessons from a local music school. ๐Ÿ™‚

So now we shall close with our

Stellar Snowy Shoutout:

This week’s shoutout goes to Miss Chrissy….who has expressed a mild interest in doing a triathlon and I am using this shoutout as a shamless attempt to twist her arm in to joining me in April and doing a tri!!!

Chrissy you do NOT need someone there kicking your butt to do it. YOU can kick your own butt. I will be your online support system…but YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!!!!!!!

DO IT!!!!!!!!!

Ok, have a great day/holiday/week/whatever everyone!!!!!!!!

Omg first post ever without song references….*gasp*

Ok. I need to either get with this blog, or drop this blog.

And honestly, I can’t drop it. Almost my entire running history is on here. I love this blog. I just don’t take CARE of this blog. I keep abandoning it. I’m a horrible blog-mommy.

I’m trying to think of how to organize this better, attract more readers…make it more….interesting and fun?ย  I don’t know. Just something.

For one, I want to do weekly posts, at a minimum. For another I am thinking about adding categories to the blog…like maybe my favorite thing of the week….my complaint of the week….my sucess of the week….?

I also want to add my knitting to the blog. I would really like to change the name entirely, to reflect that….but eh.

I’ve promised myself that if I can keep up with the blog, then I can start a podcast. I REALLY want to start a podcast. And that would involve a new blog….

Can I change my blog name on here? Can I keep all the same stuff but change the title maybe? Or does it have to stay pinkcowgirl.wordpress.com?

Well, enough with the housekeeping….let me review what’s been going on since July.

I started my new job. My first REAL person job. And I’m going to try and not mention that job on here at all. What I will tell you is that I am now a teacher. Being a teacher…I don’t want to talk about my school or students on here and possibly get in trouble. Also…I want this blog to be my happy place. ๐Ÿ™‚

I kind of want it to be family-friendly enough to be ok if my kids or parents find it…but…I don’t know if that’s possible.

Anyway. So I am now a full time teacher. My first real job.

I moved….about an hour away from home. I miss my family and frieds tons. If any of you people are reading this….I MISS YOU!!!! Note me!!!!

I’ve been REALLY busy at work so….that’s why everything else has slacked off.

I didn’t get to run the MCM because I’ve been really stressed out and sick because of work. Very sad. I cried. But…it was the right decision.

So….because I can’t think right now….I’m going to post pictures of my life since July!!!!

Beth's Baby Blanket
Beth’s Baby Blanket. I finally finished it!!! I blocked it and everything! Yay me!!!

Whitney and Uri

I have an awesome new friend at work, Whiteny. This is her playing with Uri right before we carved pumpkins!!!!

My pumpkin is the T for University of Tennessee and hers is the breast cancer ribbon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Uri for Sperly

ย Cute picture of the dog, just for Sperly. Hope you see this!!!!

Tracy took me to my first college football game EVER!! GO VOLS!!!!

Peyton Manning was there!!!!

Aaand I'm almost done with mom's socks. One down....half of one to go!

Tracy and I carved pumpkins too!

Our pumpkins rock.

So…other than that, I’m trying to get back on the workout wagon. I tried biking on my trainer today…but um…I have a flat tire. I pumped it up, and the air came right back out. You can hear it leaking so…I guess this means I’m going to have to learn to change a bike tire!!!!

This weekend Carly and I are going to run a 5K, yay us!!!

Then in November we’re trying for a half marathon that’s local. I’m hoping we can make it!!! She’s been sick with the flu of some sort.

Ok, I’m going to go work on school stuff and try to format a more….organized blogging method.

Any suggestions?!?!?!?

MISSED YOU GUYS!!!!

OH!!!!!!!! And you can follow me on Twitter now!!!! RunnerInPink. But you have to send a request. Let me know that you are from wordpress and I’ll add you.

Wake up in the morning,
clock says half past one
I have no sunglasses
As I step into the sun

Not really…but what happened to my free time?

OHHHH that’s right, GRAD SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m basically just popping in to say that I got a decent 2 miler in yesterday *WOOT* and today I’m going to…well just see what I can do. I’ve got a rough schedule today and then tomorrow…well a run just isn’t going to happen. I’ll be traveling in a car for 8ish hours…and then teaching for some untold amount of time.

Fun times.

Where’d my life go? Can someone find it for me and please return it?

Haha. Ah the joys of being a student.

That’s what today spells, folks.

For one, I’ve got classes starting today. Hoorah for graduate school!! (Some sarcasam there) In case you missed it…I only got 2 weeks of summer…so I am NOT in a school-friendly mindset.

Not to mention I seem to have made a little purchase that I’m thinking is going to distract me from my studies.

Dum da dum……………..

That’s right, kids, I got me a crackberry. Any other BB users out there? Leave me a note and I’ll give you my PIN.

I’m lovin this phone. Spending waaaaay too much time on it though.

So anyway, the main reason today spells trouble is Trainer is back in town!!! Yes, I AM looking forward to seeing her, but I’m also scared. 2 weeks off….she’s gonna be in a fun mood. ๐Ÿ™‚

I did manage to do some good workouts without her though! I’m quite proud but I’ve also been slacking off since Wednesday. I got a little sick and then I had a wedding this weekend and company in town…and NO time to run.

It may be painful.

However you probably won’t hear about it until tomorrow or maybe even Wednesday. I’ve got a night class *gag* tonight from 7-10pm and then tomorrow I’m in class 9-5. Posting might become more sporadic…well not that I’ve been regular in the past few weeks!!!

Ok, gotta go get ready for class/training.

Miss me bunches!!
