Wait, wait for the dawn my dear
Wait till the sun gets here
And you will wait too long he will be gone
Wait, wait till the sun shines through
Wait till the sky is blue.
                           ~Get Set Go

So today was going to be a rest day, but I decided to do some yoga with my cousin since I’m house sitting with her. We did about an hour of yoga. It felt really good and I need to work on my flexability so I really should do more yoga.

Tomorrow I’m going to be pretty busy all day with observations during the day then class at night. I’m hoping to get a run in sometime tomorrow afternoon with Uri unless it’s too rainy/snowy/cold out. Although…I am kind of looking forward to a GOOD snow…one you can run in without fearing ice the entire time. I want it to snow…but I want to be able to make it to the park. Haha. Beggars can’t be choosers I guess.

But I will run tomorrow, and that’s what matters. I will get up tomorrow, and I will run. And I’m going to keep it up, and keep up the blog, and the log.

No more waiting.

I’m ready to run. 🙂

Chug-Along, Chug-Along…

Like the old Virginia Creeper,
Down among the Mountain Laurel, I’m a gonna meetcha,
Baby stoke my fire,
So we can make it home tonight!

Well yesterday and today I chugged along quite a bit. Yesterday…there was a bit of an unintentional run…but let me throw in a quick re-cap.

Wednesday I did 2.5 miles in the park with Uri (Pronounced “Or-ee”). Then Thursday Uri’s dad and I went for a walk after Thanksgiving. We did around a mile or so. Not much.

I refuse to count my non-running mileage as mileage. Am I being anal or…do most runners consider walking miles uncountable?

See? Not even wearing running atire. So doesn’t count.

But anyway, yesterday…Yesterday I intended to do a nice 3 miles…which I did manage to do. Felt pretty rockin at the end…went to get the car key off Uri’s collar…..NOPE. Wasn’t there.

So…now I’m locked out of my car. (See, when I run I lock my main set of keys in the car, and take my spare car key with me…this time we attached it to the leash/collar) But…I’m guessing the keychain broke which really really sucks because that was one of my all-time favorite keychains…

It was like that, but pink. I mean…it’s PINK, a HORSE, and it opens beer. Come on, how is that NOT amazing?!?!

But now it’s gone and that’s tragic.

So anyway, I didn’t notice it was gone until mile 3…and we were back at the car…so this meant retracing my steps and hoping to find the key, or someone with a cell phone. So Uri and I made it a mile back over to the other park and found a local large animal vet that I know…thank God, and she let me use her cell phone. I called Laura who has my spare key…and she came to the rescue…meanwhile Uri and I did the mile back to the car…so about 4 total miles were at a run, one was walking while trying to find the key.

So…seeing as I hadn’t done that kind of distance in a few weeks…I was pretty sore today. Mainly my left quad. I decided to go for a run anyway because it’s one of my last days of vacation and I want to get all the miles in I can.

Uri and I did 3 miles today. Pretty good pace…really LOVING my new under armour leggings. AMAZINGNESS. Now I’m excited for it to get colder so I can gear up and head out!!!

I’m going to try REALLY hard to run between classes next week with some of the girls in my program. I’m going to try….if you guys are reading this (Lesley 🙂 ) HOLD ME TO IT!!!!!

Oh, and I didn’t do the Drumstick Dash on Thanksgiving. 😦 Eh. I needed the rest day.

Ok, gonna go do some yoga and try and get my quad to loosen up!!!

Awesome, awesome, awesome run today!!!

I made a new playlist on my ipod. All Marine cadances. Let me tell you, THAT will motivate you. I really liked it because it has a really great beat for running…because well…that’s what the Marines run to so it works really well!!

I did about 2 miles with the dogs, AND without pain!!! My ankle didn’t hurt at all!! Still doesn’t!!! WHOOO!!!!

I really wanted to keep going but I didn’t want to push my ankle so I stopped.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be running to cadences for awhile!!!

Let me tell you, I’m feelin it today.

Saturday I did lower body work, squats and other stuff. Then I moved on to abs….

Then Sunday I did upper body and more abs…

Then yesterday I met with my trainer. We attempted a 3 mile run on the cross country course but it ended up more like a run/walk. My ankle is still hurting from the race. Boo. It was ok for the first mile or so…but it slowly started to irk me. By the time we made it back to the gym…it wasn’t good.

BUT the good news is that it didn’t hurt NEAR as much as it did Thursday and Friday. So…we’re healing but slowly.

After that we did some abs and other stuff. I’m moderately sore today. Not too bad. Might try a short run tonight with the dogs to see how the ankle is feeling.

Next week is our meeting for my run club…there’s a half-marathon we’re doing Nov 22. I’m thinking about volunteering on the course. It’d be fun to see it from the other side. I’m going to try to make it to the meeting and then work the race but we’ll see what my schedule dictates.

I’m off to class now! Hopefully I’ll get that run in tonight!

In The Still Of The Night

In the shadow of night
I see the full moon rise
Telling me what’s in store,
My heart starts aching
My body started shaking
And I can’t take no more, no, no

Hehe. The Into The Darkness 4 Miler was tonight!!!!! WOOT!!!!!!!!!

This is the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way to the course.

The race started at 7pm. Mountain Junkies (http://www.mountainjunkies.net/) always does an amazing job. They are almost ALWAYS on time and the shirts and shwag are top notch. The race director and his wife are amazing. They are really motivational and they take good care of their runners!!! For example…this is a trail run…on mountain biking and jeep trails….in the woods….lots of tough terrain…and what did they do? They spent a whole heck of a lot of time going over that 4 miles of trail, blowing all the LEAVES OFF THE TRAILS SO WE WOULDN’T GET LOST!!!!!!!!

Not to mention the reflective arrows, the glow sticks, and the glowing dot thingies they put out everywhere so no one would get off course.

Seriously. Cleaned the TRAILS FOR US!!! Now that’s service.

So anyway…it was a pretty rough trail. I did better than I expected considering I did NOT expect some of those hills. I ended up leading 4 guys for awhile. It was pretty fun to just run through the woods, enjoying the pace, not really trying to kill myself…but MAN I started fast. I wish I’d had a watch to see my splits. But anyway, chilled with those guys for awhile. I was in front so it was my job to shout if there was an obstacle up ahead…and quite frequently I wouldn’t SEE the obstacle…but my right foot would FIND it…and I’d slip a little. I think I tweaked a little something in my right calf/ankle…I’m currently RICEing it as I write this.

Finally towards the end I did have to slow up some…especially on that last major hill that this particular course is KNOW for…Every race at this place ends with this hill….and I loathe this hill. Abhor even.

So anyway, finished in around 45:00. Decent…especially considering that I was NOT expecting the terrain to be as rough as it was. I’ve raced at this location before but never this race. WHEW.

Here’s me right after the race.

And here are some of the people gathered at the finish.

Went inside, had some goodies. They had quite the spread. Pasta, pumpkin bread, rice krispy treats, apples, candy. Good times. Not to mention all the free energy drinks you could carry. Ha ha. Gotta love Mountain Junkies!!!

So then they did their door prizes and then it was time for awards. I was pretty sure I was out of the running…until I heard the top overall females. I was less than 10min behind the 3rd place female!!! Wow…so I got a little excited…hoping for 3rd but betting I was just out of it in 4th.

So Josh got to the 20-24 year old females…..and WHO got first?!?!?!?!

THIS GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I mean REALLY!!!! Awesomness. Just AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So not only did I have an amazing time running through the woods in the dark…but I GOT FIRST IN MY AGE GROUP!!!! And have I mentioned the rockin awards that Mountain Junkies prides themselves on? This time it was wooden plaques that Josh and Gina made!!! She said she spent weeks painting. Ha ha.

Seriously, amazing time.

Gina, me (with my award!!!) and Josh!

Trail running at night….AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

❤ IT!!!
