Girl I wanna make you sweat…

Ok well I made me sweat. πŸ™‚ And to that song, none the less.

Yesterday I had an AWESOME workout. I did 4 miles in the park WITH hills. So great. Well, great except for the humidity. Even at 7:30 in the morning it was HUMID.

The first mile was pretty good. I should have brought my camera.Β I need to get pictures of this part of the park. Even the big hill wasn’t bad. I had a pretty even pace the entire time. Then I got down to the main park and had to decide which way to go. One way I could go straight and turn back at pretty much any mile marker if I wanted to stray from the planned 4. The other way was a loop around the park, and yes I COULD turn back…but something about that loop just makes me have to finish. It’s like once I start out on the loop, I cannot turn back at the half mile marker or anything. The loop is the loop is the loop. It’s 2 miles and you do the whole thing. Period.

So I did the loop.

So I ran a mile in to the loop, this is near the 1 mile mark…kinda.

More Path

So after that (this is 2 miles in to the run total) I had to walk a little, but not much!!!! Then I ran back to the start of the loop for mile 3, and back up the huge hill that I must take a picture of…and then to my car!!!!! 4 whole miles in 41:44!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m pleased.

Yeah, so that’s over a 10 minute mile…but I don’t care. It’s better than last week. I also hit double digit mileage for this week so that’s exciting. Gonna try to keep it that way. πŸ™‚

I Want To Ride My Bicycle

I do NOT want to ride my bicycle, I do not want to ride my bike.



Trainer hurt me.

We did a spin class type thing today. And let me tell you…I sure can run for 40 minutes…but BIKE?? Apparently not.

Now I have never been a good biker…at all. But I did not know I could be bad on a level this low. About 10 minutes in I wanted to cry. I no longer felt my hamstrings or glutes. At all.

And Trainer is just perking away on the bike beside me going “And stand and pedal…and sit and pedal….and stand and pedal….and sit and pedal” And I’m thinking “And stand and try to run away….and sit and try not to whimper…”

Nah, it wasn’t THAT bad but MAN I hurt. I have never sweat that much during an indoor activity in my LIFE. And see, this is why I have her…because I HAVE been on a stationary bike before for what I THOUGHT was exercise. Apparently my version of exercise was seriously wrong. Thank you, Trainer, for showing me the error of my ways.

So after the biking…and after I regained some feeling in my legs…we did abs and arms. Medicine ball work today. And some other lesser forms of torture. πŸ™‚


Other than that I made salmon for dinner (YUM) so I’m pleased. Friday is “fish day” because a local company drives to the shore and picks up fresh fish once a week then trucks it back up here so we inlanders can get REAL fish. It’s awesome.

Tomorrow…I shall attempt a longΒ run. I shall. Provided my legs allow movement.

So right now I’m going to goΒ “carb load”.

Also known as I’m going to find ice cream and pig out.


Run In Place

Well I didn’t manage to run today.

More like I woke up and did some quick mileage calculations in my head and decided a rest day was a better plan. I’ve done around 6 miles already this week and I don’t really want to go over 10 or 12 for the week because increasing too much to fast can increase your risk for injury.

I did do some yoga though. I really need to work on my flexibility.

I also got some yummy fresh veggies today. Peas, tomatoes, and cucumbers. I drove over to the parent’s house after work and pilfered veggies out of their garden. πŸ™‚ Yay for mooching. I’d have veggies at my place but my apartment does not face the sun and my efforts to grow tomatoes on the back deck have all been futile.

Tomorrow is another Trainer Day. I think we’re doing a bike workout but I’m not sure. Saturday I’m going to do a long run…4ish miles probably.

Today I also bought a box of my favorite power bars. Let me tell you just how happy these things make me….

Trainer Day

It was Trainer Day today!!!

I warmed up by doing a mile on the eliptical. Then Trainer arrived. And then it began…

We ran 20 minutes. Then we walked for 3. Aaaand then we ran 20 more.

No lie.

Total was about 3.5 to 4 miles for the run…plus the mile on the eliptical…so I’m calling it 4 to be safe…but it may be 5. πŸ™‚ Hehe. I’m so proud.

We talked a little during the run. I told her about wanting to do the Richmond Half and she said she might be doing the full so that’s awesome. She said there’s a local half in October but I’d rather wait for Richmond but we’ll see. We picked up the pace a little after the 3 minute rest but soon had to back it down because I was slightly winded. I did manage to find my voice again when we ran through the Dairy on campus. I love cows so…(hence the name on here…) that got me talking. I told her which breeds were which and just random cow facts. I also told her what the different buildings were at the dairy. We finished up by running a loop around the vet school and then to the horticulture gardens. I’d never been through those but they are really nice. I think I have a new favorite place to sneak off and study while on campus!!!

Here, let’s see if we can map it…

Ok anyone want to tell me how to make mapmyrun work? Anyone?

So after the run Trainer had me do crunches, medicine ball twists, supermans, calf raises, some shin work, and side bends. 3 circuits of that.

I’m quite proud of my effort. I’m just excited to see the results. And I have the patience of a goldfish.

Actually I’m just impressed that I ran for 40 MINUTES!!!!

Tomorrow I’m going to try for 3 miles in the park, then Friday I see Trainer again.

In other news, apparently a lot of people at my church want a personal trainer. Actually I’m sure a lot of people everywhere want one…but where I live it’s not that easy to get one…so if I do decide to get certified (after I work out a LOT more and take that class and stuff…) I’d have clients!

I’d love to be a trainer. I am just so addicted to fitness and working out and stuff… And I’m just a touch enthusiastic…incase you haven’t noticed…. πŸ™‚

Well, I’m going to go get some things done around my house and then get to bed early so I can run in the AM!

Well it was one busy weekend!

I didn’t really manage to get a workout in between the 11 hours of driving…but I did accomplish some pictures of the bf’s dog.

Good news is that I did a nice easy 2 miler this morning. I did the second mile faster than the first so if that counts as a negative split…YAY!!! Ha. I’ll count it.

I just ran around the loop my road makes so it wasn’t a very exciting run other than the time. However running at my apartment saves gas since I don’t drive to the park.

Tomorrow I meet with my nutritionist again and then Wednesday is PERSONAL TRAINER DAY!!!!!!!! WHOOOO!!! I’m so excited. I see her Friday too. Awesomeness.

Breathe In, Breathe Out

So the personal trainer pretty much handed my ass to me this morning.

Nah, she wasn’t that bad but it was a little more hard core than I’m used to. I think we did close to three miles…all on the cross country course…which means it felt like it was ALL uphill. She kept me moving though. I think part of my issue is that I don’t push myself hard enough. Hence why I have Trainer.

So she shall now be refered to as “Trainer”. Protects her identity and all that good crap.

But other than the slight ass kicking, I totally love her.

So we did the run, then we went inside and did some quick core work. She showed me some good (painful, but good) ab exercises. Some I’d done and some I had not. We did one exercise where I stood beside the wall, then leaned over and rested my forearm on the wall and then dipped my hips toward the wall…if that makes any sense.

Yeah, I can’t find a single good google image of it. Basically, feet 2ish feet from the wall, forearm on wall paralell to the ground…dip hips towards wall. She said I’ll feel that tomorrow in my obliques. I hope so.

Then we did some stuff with a swiss ball and a few other things. I need to go home and do a little more tonight because I felt like I was going to pass out in the gym. I don’t think I ate enough this morning. Must remember to eat more for ass-kicking workouts.

I had a really awesome run yesterday.

I waited until after work and headed to the park.


I headed out at a moderate pace and was really enjoying it. The weather was wonderful. For some reason it was SUPER mild out.

Path Again

That’s one of my favorite parts of the path. It’s right where you turn around to head back so that miiiight be why I like it, but the main reason is because it’s the most seculded and quiet part.


This is headed back towards the start and my car.

So…when I did the 2 miles…and looked at my watch…. 16:45!!!!!!! Now if I could only keep that pace up for 24.2 more miles.

Well, personal trainer in the morning so I’d better get to bed!

Starting Something

Well it’s been a busy week so far.

Sunday was a rest day. I just didn’t feel up to par after running Saturday.

Monday I did some serious lifting with my new workout DVD. I have the DVD from Bravo’s tv show Workout so that was fun. It is a really great DVD and all you need is hand weights. I couldn’t make it all the way through so that’s something to work towards.

Yesterday I also made a list of goal races. A few that made the list are the Disney Marathon, the OBX marathon, and the Charlotte Thunder Road marathon. I’m thinking about doing OBX as soon as next year. I love that area and that race is a must-do for me.

Also over the weekend I worked on my training plan. I’m starting to get a decent base built up so it’s about time to start training for something. I’m thinking the Richmond Half and then the Shamrock Full in Virginia Beach.

The races are 18 weeks apart so that would give me time to have a super-long marathon training…and allow a little wiggle room incase my stomach issues arise.

The plan supposedly will take effect the second weekend in July. This gives me almost a month to keep working on my base mileage. The half training plan I’m going to use is a 18 week plan as well so it’s going to be slow and steady. It’s the plan I used for my first race so there’s no reason it won’t work now. I got through that race injury free so I’m not going to fix what ain’t broken, so to speak. πŸ™‚

It’s actually REALLY mild out today so I’m going to get my run in this afternoon after work. Tomorrow is run club so that works out well. However it looks like I’ll be working out with my personal trainer Thursday morning for the first time so…I’m probably going to be dead by Friday. Don’t expect an update. I’ll need to recover.

Haha, I hope it’s not that bad. πŸ™‚

Well, I’m going to wrap things up here and work and head home to grab my running gear. I’ll probably do the 2 mile loop around the park and hopefully post the pictures of the park for you all!

Don’t Blink

Or ya might miss me!!

Like my parents did!!!

Apparently 32:01 was too fast for mom and dad to get me on camera. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

Today was the Christiansburg 5K. I almost didn’t run because I got sick with my lovely stomach condition last night but I had REALLY been looking forward to this race. This is race number 5 on my way to the goal of 8 5K’s in ’08.

Mom and dad came to support me and play race photographer. Also some people I used to work with ran. One woman did the 1 mile with her sons and another did the 5K with me.

I’d pre-registered so I went and got my packet (Just a shirt and a pen, not much swag, it was the first running of this race) and was debating whether or not I’d run. I looked at the course map…


…and was REALLY not sure. I’m very familiar with all the streets, considering the course goes around my current workplace…and MAN that is some hilly stuff.

Then I saw one of the girls from my old work…

…and talked to her and the other person from work…and decided I’d give it a whirl and see how far I could make it. I also saw some friends from Run Club so that was fun.

So the race began…


…I am actually in that picture but I don’t think anyone else can spot me. I’ve got my head turned…talking…imagine that.

So I ran. I stuck with the girl from work for the most part. It was pretty darn hilly and I ended up going out in front of her towards the middle of the race. There was one water stop AND a sprinkler…and that felt pretty great in the heat. I did walk some, mostly on the hills, because I’m just not trying to push my body and end up sick on the couch for a week or two.

The race went past yet another former co-worker’s home so she and her husband were outside to cheer us on. That was really awesome. She’s the best.

I got to the finish and the girl that had ran the 1 miler with her kids was cheering for me so that was awesome. It’s always great motivation to get through those last few yards if you hear someone yelling your name.

So I finished in 32:01 according to my watch and surprisingly that was exactly my clock time too!!! How often does THAT happen?!?!



It’s not a great time, or a PR by any means but I’m just happy I had a finishing time considering how sick I was last night.


So I look around…and I don’t see my parents…and I didn’t remember seeing them taking my picture as I sprinted across the finish…Where ARE those people???

THERE they are!!! Where were they, you might ask, while I was finishing my race? Oh, they were SHOPPING.


Mom apparently thought it would take me a touch longer to finish…but that’s ok, I love them just the same. They were there at least to cheer and that’s what matters. Plus I think mom has WAY better pictures than I have on my camera so possibly more pictures to come!! Anyway, then I decided we needed a fake finishing photo…because I am a DORK. And this is a HORRIBLE picture…but since I’m picking on mom and dad, I’ll post it and publicly embarass myself.

Anyway, so that was the race. Pretty good day. Next time I’ll get mom and dad some tracking chips or something so they don’t wander off.

Not-So-New People

I was supposed to meet my trainer for the first time this morning.

Turns out I already knew her from the local running store!!! That was amusing. She’s really awesome and does ultra marathons so I bow to her. I’m so excited to start my training. We’ll start sometime next week as soon as my doctor signs my release forms. Gotta love that paperwork.

I also went to see my nutritionist today. She is going to help me balance my diet and get me eating “mindfully” rather than counting calories all day long. She’s also going to help me increase my food intake so that’s good.

Overall it’s been a pretty exciting day considering it’s a rest day. I thought about doing my new workout DVD this morning but decided I didn’t want to be sore for tomorrow’s 5K. I love the show Workout on Bravo and I bought their exercise DVD and it looks pretty hardcore. I figured I should hold off until after my race.

I’m excited for the race tomorrow. This will be my first since April. Stupid stomach thing got me off track. I’m really looking forward to it because my family is coming and some people I used to work with are going to be running. You can expect lots of pictures with the race report tomorrow!!!

Well, it’s about time to head home so I’m going to finish up here.
