It’s time that I get with the program.

So I bought a trainer for my bike…so there are NO more excuses to not get my cardio in. YAY TRAINER!!!!!!!! I got it out, set it up…well, ok the boyfriend set it up because let’s face it…if I can get him to do it, I’d much rather blame him for any malfunctions than know it was my fault for sure. :) Hehe.

I did 60 minutes on the trainer…and I am really not used to the seat on this bike. Mmm yeah. Gonna be hard to sit tomorrow. Lol. Here’s my sweet setup. FYI, coffee tables with wheels are God’s gift to apartment living.

So in superfunawesome news…my boyfriend got me a Good Luck on your half marathon package!!!! Lookie!!!

It has Gu’s, shot blocks, super awesome socks, lip gloss, and some body glide!!!! How amazing is that?? And did I mention my boyfriend is a non-runner?!?!! He got all that stuff and he doesn’t run!!! HE’S SO FREAKING GREAT!!!!!!!!

Ok, sorry for all the mush.

Oh, so some of my knitting friends are now reading my blog because it’s linked on Ravelry. In knitting news…I was working on a hat today, and my boyfriend looks at me and goes “HONEY!!! Finish a project before you start another one!!!” Lol. He’s noticed the abundance of un-finished things in baskets and bags around the house. I about died laughing.

One more thing, when I went to take the picture of my marathon package, it was on the table beside my gym bag. And my gym bag moved….on it’s own…

Yeah. Apparently my cat decided this is the ideal hiding spot. So…I left him alone. There’s nothing in there he can mess with. I usually just carry my post-run shoes, wallet, and body glide in it and some band-aids. Apparently now it carries cats too. :)

Ok, well I’m going to go get some homework done, wander Ravelry, and try and stop by all my favorite bloggers!!! More later!

The cold wind from space
Is blowing in my face
God, what am I doing here?
I wish I was a cat,
Then I’d know where it’s at
Sure has been a funny year

            ~Holy Modal Rounders

Well. It’s been a funny last month or so. I’ve been missing in action, in case you didn’t notice. A lot has been going on…grad school and all that madness, but the good news is I’ve been semi-keeping up with the running and will be doing my second half-marathon in 10 days!!!!!!!!!

I feel a little under-prepared but with the pressures of grad school and the turmoil of winter, it’s the best I can do right now. The good news is that I’m running with my good friend and…well…she’s stuck in the same boat. We’re in the same grad program so we’re both maxed out and pressed for time and our running is suffering.

I’ve wandered to a few new websites so if anyone that reads this is on one of them, please add me as a friend!!! I’m on SparkPeople (sn is PinkCowgirl) and Ravelry (sn is also PinkCowgirl). I’m loving them both and I can get on them from school whereas wordpress is blocked. Stupid school.

Anyway, other exciting things that have happened: Ran 2 5K’s…went to see my sister (http://imamarinesgirl.wordpress.com/) and had an AWESOME time!!!!!!!! I miss her already and she needs to get her little butt up here!!!!!!!

Not much else to report, but plenty of pictures to share!!!!!!!!!

Mom, Uri, and me before the Classic! Mom came in 2nd in her age group in this race!!!

Jo found a cache!!!! She was a cache finding machine this weekend. AND IT WAS HER FIRST TIME GEOCACHING!!!!!!! Love ya, sissy.

OMG OMG OMG NEYLAND!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and my beautiful sister!!!

Me and mom before the Explore Park 5K. Mom’s first trail run!!!!

After the race! Mom got 1st in her age group and I got 2nd in mine. Mom also managed to come in a full minute under my time from 3 years ago in this race. And she’s about 30 years older than I was. Yeah. Mom is scary-good. And I’m super proud. :)

Well, mom and I have another 5K tomorrow, so I’ll try and be a better blogger and update then!!!

Livin’ in a lonely world
She took the midnight train goin’ anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in south Detroit
He took the midnight train goin’ anywhere

Went to see Bedtime Stories tonight. Heavy on the Journey music so I thought it was fitting.

I did a nice 3 miler today. My friend and I were going to go geocaching (10 points to anyone who actually knows what that is) so I got my run in before we went. I have a tendancy to put the run off…and then not do it…so in an effort to stay on track with my training I got my run in BEFORE going out with my friends. :) GO me.

And let me tell you it was a darn good thing, because her car…died on us. We ended up sitting in a field for about 2 hours.

Here’s a picture of where we sat.

So. That was fun. And speaking of pictures, I need to post my Christmas goodies!!! So without further ado….DUM DA DUM……………………..

The clothes!!!

The DVD’s!!!!

The running goodies from the family. A BPA free bottle, some gloves, an under armor sports bra, a scarf, and a headlamp!!!

And the pièce de résistance….

The awesome, awesome, awesome, AWESOME presents from the boyfriend!!!

Yeah. 2 running books I’ve been DYING for…a ultra-light headlamp (the one the fam gave me…kinda tends to fall down in to my face when I run, it’s better for working on the jeep or something) some ASICS socks (woot for my fave brand) and not to mention the fuel belt I got earlier!!!

THEN he got me a Carhartt jacket (OMG YAY!!!!!!!!!!) and a new fishing pole!!!! AWESOMENESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I may keep this one around for awhile.

So. Shamrock prices go up tomorrow. I’m going to try and sign up tomorrow. I will. I CAN. I must.

I AM GOING TO RUN THE SHAMROCK HALF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, so I keep a yearly running log…the RW one. This one.

So last year was the first year I did it…and I think I started it…um..wait. Maybe I started in August of 07…yeah…then I got sick…and I didn’t do it much this year…but anyway. 2009. I’m starting the log and writing down EVERY run. And I am EXCITED!!!!!!!!!! Does anyone else get excited about new logs or stuff? Yes? Maybe?

Well I am.

So. Tomorrow is the last day of the old log. I’m READY for 2009 and my new log. AND my new RW calendar!!!!!!!

SHAMROCK HALF HERE I COME!!!!!!!!!!!

Because it’s totally been 60 degrees here for the past few days. Seriously.

Sorry for the delay in posting, I was wrapping up my semester. Phew. SO glad that’s done. Although…I still have work to do…but no real deadlines. Thank God.

But anyway, here’s a quick recap from the last week…

Wednesday – TRAINER DAY!!! Whoo!!! We did 20ish minutes on the bike then a badass cardio circuit. MAN did my abs hurt the next day!!! However that makes me very pleased so YAY PAIN!!!!!

And has anyone ever used one of these?

It’s the Reebok Studio Cycle. I love those things. It’s an awesome workout and the bike is SO small…if they weren’t megabucks I’d so get one for my apartment!!!

Anyway, so then I was a slacker for a few days…school is to blame, totally. But then Saturday I STARTED MY HALF MARATHON TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’m training for the Shamrock Half Marathon

So. I really need to register. :) I think my friend is going to do it with me so that will be awesome.

So Saturday I did a 4 mile run. It was a really comfortable temperature and I was quite pleased with my performance…so let’s hope I can keep it up till March!!! :)

In other news…the boyfriend ROCKS again. We exchanged one early Christmas present each…I got him a hiking guide and he…is a non-runner so the fact that he picked the following item out with out a CLUE about running….is AMAZING. PLUS I’d never, ever, ever, ever mentioned I wanted one….so without further ado…meet MY NEW FUEL BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FUEL BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I GOT A FUEL BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously I nearly flipped. I am beyond excited…so now I really have to buckle down and get this training underway!!!!

FUEL BELT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:)

Now if only it would get cold and snow, my life would be perfect.

MOM RAN 3 MILES TODAY!!!!!!!!! GO MOM GO!!!!!!!!!!

But first, the JC Half!!!

I “worked” at the halfway mark with a few people from the tri team. It was awesome, I got to see my trainer run, she got second female so that’s awesome!!! However I TOTALLY forgot to take pictures till almost everyone had finished. Lol. Here’s a picture from the halfway point.

And also, in fun-type news I got to play with my favorite baby on Laura’s farm. I’ve named her Lucky.

Isn’t she adorable?!!?

But anyway. MOM RAN WITH ME TODAY!!!!! I took her and Uri to the park for a run. Here we are on the way to the park. Uri REALLY liked mom.

So we did the 2 mile loop around the park, mom thought it was longer…she was not too happy but she kept going!!! She doesn’t like the cold and it was snowing on us but she kept running anyway!!! I was SO PROUD!!!! She kept going for the full 3 miles with only a little walking!!! Of course Uri was ready to go another 3…

Mom really liked Uri after the run.

He’s such a good boy. AND I AM SO PROUD OF MOM!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD JOB MOMMY YOU RAN 3 MILES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YAY MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, back to homework. Hopefully mom and I are doing a 5K next weekend since she knows she can do a full 3 miles!!!!!

Hiiiiiiii everyone!!!!!!!!

Or rather, anyone who is still out there!! Ha ha. I’m sorry I’ve neglected my readers, but it appears as though graduate studies have the tendency to consume your entire life and require you to drop everything that is not otherwise academic.

Including running.

Which reminds me, I need to text Trainer.

Mission accomplished.

At any rate. HI!!!!

I’ve been running when I can, mostly with the dogs, Shiloh and Tessa. Usually just 2ish miles. I’m so pressed for time that any long runs are just out of the question. I did manage a rather good cardio circuit on my own last Monday so I was quite proud of the soreness I impressed upon myself.

But I do have some very, VERY exciting news!!!!!!!

Wait, two things.

ONE….I’m TWO RACES AWAY FROM MY ‘08 GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Two……..I’m going to start training for a half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the half that we are setting as our dream/goal of the moment is…………………

Oh come on now, who didn’t see that coming!?

So that’s the goal. The backup is Shamrock at Virginia Beach. Backup race is needed due to travel expenses to Disney…but MAN I want that race….and it’s the first one….and…yeah. Gonna have to work on that.

Training should start around Nov 1.

Stay tuned, people.

And hopefully coming this week: Pictures from the USMC MUD RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy trails!

Do A Little Dance…

Ok well that was Friday.

I did quite a lot of dancing at The Embers concert. AMAZING time with the best friend. My parents were there, his parents, lots of high school people’s parents *yes, I hang out with old people*, my former boss…so it was fun.

Danced all night.

So Saturday…there was some PAIN in the left hip flexor/IT band…not sure which it was but it hurt. Not terrible but I thought (especially after the 4-Mile Friday) a rest day was in order.

Plus it’s better to fool around with my “schedule” now than mid-way through.

Yes, that’s right. We are now embarking on the Half-Marathon Training!!!

Not sure which half though. Something in November. My friend decided not to do the Richmond Half so I may still do it…or may not….there’s a local half too around then…so….we shall see.

But so anyway, we moved the “start” of the half training from Saturday to Sunday.

So Sunday I ran 2 miles!!!!

At 6pm when it was 92 degrees out. Insanity.

I almost died. I won’t lie, there was walking. And 10 minute miles. And some anger. But I DID IT!!!!

Then….today was cross training day with Trainer. And per my (idiotic) request we did a pool workout.

Just…wow. I used to be on the swim team but….that was many years ago…..and I have basically forgotten how to breathe while swimming. Thankfully no lifeguard was necessary but I was SLOOOOOOW. But it was still awesome. I liked doing the kickboard work best. (Gee, no face in the water…wonder why I liked it) My legs are pretty strong so those was also my fastest laps.

We did some different drills and I ended up swimming about a half mile…which is kinda sad but…for my first serious swim since…2001ish….hey, not bad.

And I feel AWESOME today, by the way.

No, I’m still totally not sleeping through the night. But I feel good. (And I just got your note, Erika. Great timing. I’ll work on that. *says to self I AM a BAMF….I AM*) I actually feel great today. Better than I have in MONTHS. I don’t know what is causing this but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it keeps up. :)

So, to recap…4 miles and 3 hours of dancing Friday, 2 miler to begin the half training Sunday, and a rockin pool workout today! Good week so far!!!

Starting Something

Well it’s been a busy week so far.

Sunday was a rest day. I just didn’t feel up to par after running Saturday.

Monday I did some serious lifting with my new workout DVD. I have the DVD from Bravo’s tv show Workout so that was fun. It is a really great DVD and all you need is hand weights. I couldn’t make it all the way through so that’s something to work towards.

Yesterday I also made a list of goal races. A few that made the list are the Disney Marathon, the OBX marathon, and the Charlotte Thunder Road marathon. I’m thinking about doing OBX as soon as next year. I love that area and that race is a must-do for me.

Also over the weekend I worked on my training plan. I’m starting to get a decent base built up so it’s about time to start training for something. I’m thinking the Richmond Half and then the Shamrock Full in Virginia Beach.

The races are 18 weeks apart so that would give me time to have a super-long marathon training…and allow a little wiggle room incase my stomach issues arise.

The plan supposedly will take effect the second weekend in July. This gives me almost a month to keep working on my base mileage. The half training plan I’m going to use is a 18 week plan as well so it’s going to be slow and steady. It’s the plan I used for my first race so there’s no reason it won’t work now. I got through that race injury free so I’m not going to fix what ain’t broken, so to speak. :)

It’s actually REALLY mild out today so I’m going to get my run in this afternoon after work. Tomorrow is run club so that works out well. However it looks like I’ll be working out with my personal trainer Thursday morning for the first time so…I’m probably going to be dead by Friday. Don’t expect an update. I’ll need to recover.

Haha, I hope it’s not that bad. :)

Well, I’m going to wrap things up here and work and head home to grab my running gear. I’ll probably do the 2 mile loop around the park and hopefully post the pictures of the park for you all!

Misty sunrise in my hometown,
Rows of cotton bout knee high,
Mrs. Baker down the dirt road,
Still got clothes out on the line,

~Buddy Jewell Sweet Southern Comfort

That is a decent summary of my morning in my hometown. Sometimes I love living here…and sometimes it really wears on me that I’ve been here my whole life.

This morning I got up and went to the park for a nice run in the mist. I did the 2 mile loop around the park, thankfully gnat-free this time. I used to run this route early in the morning last year in the summer so it was nice to get back to it. I saw some of the park-regulars out for their morning walks. Usually it’s just older people who are retired so it’s nice to be the only runner.

I really wish I’d brought my camera so I could put some pictures of the park in the mist on here. Maybe next time.

I’m trying to move from a afternoon-run to a morning one. This weekend I’m also going to go over my training schedule and upcoming race list. I still can’t believe how much endurance I lost when I was sick. It makes me worry I won’t be able to do the Richmond Half in Nov. I’m going to try though.

Well, I’m off to finish my school work. Tomorrow I’m going to try for 3 miles in the morning.
